Course Description

This introductory class will explore the types of powerful, data-driven visual narratives that are rising in demand across industries. Students will be introduced to “big data” and various design strategies to effectively distill complex information through a compelling visual narrative. This course is intended for both designers and non-designers interested in understanding basic tools and skills involved in information visualization.

An introductory course for artists, designers and photographers getting started with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. The basics of color correction, retouching, image manipulation, graphics, logo development and page layout will be covered. Digital file formats and best practices will also be covered. Prerequisite: basic computer experience

Course Description

In this course, students will learn to approach social and market-based problems with an entrepreneurial mindset. Through research, they will identify areas ripe for innovation, and learn strategic approaches for developing and marketing creative projects, products, and services. Topics covered will include core entrepreneurial thinking; business models; research and marketing; business ethics, and options for financing. Students wishing to investigate new or existing ideas using entrepreneurial thinking are encouraged to take this course.

CSPD 410: Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro $675.00

Course Description

A powerful combination for any motion graphic or video artist Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro will enhance your work. This course will cover the basics for creating motion graphics, animated titles, short videos, and visual effects. Working with timelines, keyframes, assets, effects, type, imported images, art from Adobe Illustrator, sound, and masking students will create their short videos with animated titles.
With more than 25 years of experience as a designer and educator, Trish Moore has created award-winning work for large corporations and nonprofits. By fostering a human-centered design approach that leaves a positive impact every day and creates a culture that inspires and encourages optimistic thinking. Most recent projects have been for the University of Maryland and Maryland 4-H.

NCPD 310: Graphic Design 101 $170.00

Course Description

Explore the methods and tools to create effective designs for marketing, web, print, branded spaces and objects. Join the world of visual design with MICA, learning best practices from expert instructors that bring your business alive. In a workshop format, we will explore a range of visual exercises that can be applied to a variety of designed objects.
Brockett Horne is a designer, educator, and writer. She serves as chair of graphic design at MICA, where she teaches fierce sophomores and daring juniors. She has been exhibited and honored with multiple design awards, is a past Rotary International Scholar, and has work in the permanent collection of the RISD Museum of Art. Her creative work is inspired by a desire to encourage the spectator to learn while looking. Clients include the Baltimore Museum of Art, Johns Hopkins University, Polaris Project, and the Taproot Foundation. She holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, and an MA from Bard Graduate Center.
