NCSP 104: Real & Fanciful Landscapes (Grades 3-5) $308.00

Course Description

Location: St. Pauls School. Grades 3-5: In this introductory landscape course, students take a fantastic journey into some truly unusual landscapes. Using children's literature as inspiration, students embark upon fanciful journeys into a colorful world of realistic, personal, and fanciful landscapes. They will create cityscapes, oceanscapes, and scenes from both an insect's point of view and a birds-eye view. From there, they will journey to far-away places to capture moonscapes and underwater seascapes. Emphasis is on problem-solving, exercising the imagination, using writing to enhance fanciful scenes, and experimentation with a variety of materials and techniques.

Grades K-2: In this course students take on the role of undersea explorers and artists in discovering and responding to the many aspects of the sea and seashore environment. Activities include creating sea creatures, undersea dioramas, using a variety of media in responding to stories and learning about ways that illustrators of children’s books and artists used the sea as inspiration for their art.

Location St. Paul's School. Grades K-2: Young children are encouraged to explore textures and mark-making as they try out numerous ways of creating prints. From mono-print to relief prints, sun prints to handprints, students immerse themselves in how printing ink, paint, and other color media can help them see and understand shape, line, and texture. Students are encouraged to tap into their sense of play and imagination as they explore creative printing techniques.

Course Description

Location: St. Paul's School. Grade 3-5: This course offers students the opportunity to be both creator and performer! Students will explore a variety of 2-D and 3-D processes as they create books, objects, puppets and masks that can be incorporated into an original narrative. In addition to generating ideas and creating characters, students learn how images and props can be used to tell a story. Emphasis is on creating a unique and expressive language of object, gesture, and story, with equal attention given to the artistic/visual qualities of the art objects themselves and the purposeful use of these objects in student-designed performances.

Students use conventional and unconventional drawing tools and materials to investigate "mark-making" as it relates to the development of the symbolic and expressive forms. Working from observation, imagination, music, dreams, and memory, students become comfortable thinking outside the box when it comes to their own creative possibilities.

NCSP 223: Exploring Color Media (Grades 6-8) $308.00

Course Description

Location: St. Paul's School. Grades 6-8: Using a variety of dry and wet color media, students explore the powerful role of color on an artwork’s mood, atmosphere, and overall visual impact. To make informed decisions about color, students first learn color relationships and color theory as they create a series of related compositions that reflect specific color schemes. Throughout the course, students view the works of exemplar painters as inspiration for the infinite ways color can be utilized for stylistic and expressive purposes.
