CSDR 101: Learning to Draw $675.00

Course Description

This course will focus on the fundamentals of seeing and responding with simple drawing tools. We will explore mark making, gesture, movement, line and the rendering of three- dimensional objects to establish a firm foundation for your drawing practice. You will learn that you do not need some elusive gift, instead with time, commitment and practice that you will learn to draw the world the way only you can see it.

CSPT 201: Learning to Paint the Landscape $675.00

Course Description

Throughout history, the challenge of capturing the changing light in landscape and the expressive possibilities that climate creates have captivated artists from El Greco and Turner, to Corot and Van Gogh. In this course, suitable for all levels and open to all media, students will explore painting techniques for quickly rendering light and atmosphere in the afternoon-evening landscape The instructor will demonstrate a number of methods that offer tangible opportunities for success with quick studies, as well as with more extended compositions. After mastering the basics of depicting form through value, students will explore the nuances of color palettes and paint application to render the emotive qualities of the landscape. Homework assignments will challenge the student to explore different light situations throughout the day. This is a remote learning class: students will travel independently to various local painting sites and must have an internet connected device with a Zoom App. NOTE: Learners of all levels and all media are welcome. The French-style Julian easel is also recommended. Materials lists for oil and acrylic painting will be available with registration.

NCFB 202: Workshop: Needle & Wet Felting $170.00

Course Description

This fiber workshop is a fully remote introductory to needle and wet felt making processes. Students will learn about the properties of wool, as well as other fibers, in addition to the regional and cultural roots of the techniques central to the class. Upon completion students will have produced several felted objects and will be equipped with the terms and tools to continue their creative pursuits with felt making beyond the workshop! All students will be given the option of buying a premade kit or procuring their own materials and tools. A list as well as suggested links and vendors will be provided to anyone who prefers not to buy the kit upon enrollment.

NCPR 103: Workshop: Linocut Printmaking & Print Exchange $170.00

Course Description

Linocut relief printing is direct, expressive, and can be practiced at home with simple tools and materials. In this workshop students will learn to carve and print a single-color linoleum cut, and then exchange prints by mail. Students will complete the workshop with a small collection of prints, as well as the tools and skills to continue printing independently.

NCPR 106: Workshop: Book Arts $170.00

Course Description

In this workshop, students will learn a contemporary variation on single sheet coptic binding to join single sheets into a book that opens flat and does not require folds or glue. This technique allows the artist to bind books with unusual materials, such as heavy watercolor paper, cardboard, or wood panels. Students will learn to stitch a prototype book using cardboard, and then produce a second book using materials of their choice.

NCPT 106: Workshop: Botanical Illustration with Watercolors $170.00

Course Description

This workshop is designed for the student who is interested in capturing the beauty of nature through observation and illustration of botanicals using watercolor pencils. It is a four session workshop that introduces the student to the use of observation sketches and value studies to develop botanical pieces. This botanical workshop is ideal for the beginner with materials that give the student the most control and a subject matter that is easily accessible. The student will be exposed to a taste of watercolor as a medium and experience with traditional botanical illustration.
